International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste

On International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, we highlight some of our goals to address fish and seafood waste: we intend to develop new and sustainable preservation methods, use new technologies to control microorganisms (microbiome), toxins and allergenic substances (proteome) in fish and seafood and develop smart labels (biosensors) to monitor the quality along the distribution chain. Our project meets the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals such as GOAL 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

To raise awareness about this issue, ICHTHYS participated in the European Researchers' Night at the MAR Shopping Algarve (Faro, Portugal). From the youngest to the oldest, hundreds of people stopped by to talk with the researchers and get to know how people also can avoid food waste and how ICHYTHYS is contributing to this.
